Arts and Crafts masterpiece with pool and hot tub overlooking the beach
Gwynaeth Gwyn was built by Sir Harry Verney in the 1920's as part of his dream to create a 'Glyndebourne of the North' in this exceptional corner of Anglesey. The result is incredible, a stunning Arts and Crafts house set in 2 acres of mature gardens with an incredible vista out over the golden sands of Red Wharf Bay.
Enter through the huge wrought iron gates (automatic thankfully!) and you're immediately transported to an era of fin-de-siecle luxury. Noel Coward is known to have spent time here in this house and its rumoured that there were also royal liaisons here involving Wallis Simpson...
Fast forward almost a century and many sensitive renovations later, the addition of terraces, swimming pool and hot tub have transformed this into a place you will never want to leave.
It is still hugged by nature- character and comfort abound in a magical space which is untouched by time.
Ease into heaven – at Gwynaeth Gwyn you just want to sit, or float and stare. The feel is remote, the views are superb. From the hot tub you look across the bay and the sandy beach is just a short walk along a footpath. To reach this dramatic spot you wind slowly down through bucolic lanes to land at your delightful space. A large, lawned garden has uninterrupted views over the bay and there are delightful areas hidden away such as the orchard and the woodland firepit area.
Light the barbecue and pour a long lazy drink while the children tumble about on the lawn or splash in the pool. The hot tub is great for a soak at dusk and the terrace with sea views is a yoga stretch from the house. Gather around in the shade of the trees with blankets at the fire pit -a great spot for a night cap under the stars.
Inside, the spacious kitchen has everything you need to cook for a full house and those views follow you everywhere. Fling open the patio doors and soak up the sea - the Aga will share the load and the chef will love the induction hob on the work island and space to chop the salad. Outside are several places to eat - the barbecue area is vast and and what better place can there be to cook local seafood?
This is a house made for groups – decide if you wish to sit in front of the woodburner in the cosy downstairs living room or sit and admire the birds eye views from the incredible upstairs sitting room. There’s a handy bar area here, and a conservatory garden room for extra seating. Spill out into the balcony on sunny evenings and watch the rest of the group splash in the pool.

Another king next door – a room with a sea view. A calming double room faces the lawn and a the fifth bedroom has a single bed and a handy child bed too. This floor is not short of a bathroom or two either The sleek grey bathroom has a huge bath and shower but the cosy teal bathroom has the best views for a soak.
Big gatherings or groups of friends or family will love the luxurious lodge. There’s plenty of space here. A double room with ensuite, a bunk room and a twin make a perfect pad for 6. The balcony is a real surprise and of course you can cook in the swish kitchen or join the party across at the main house which is a short walk away past the pool.
Gather up a picnic and join the madding crowd on the beach or wander to Red Wharf Bay for food. The Ship Inn is a firm favourites and breakfast at the Boathouse is a must! Over the hill you will find Beaumaris which is always worth a visit for the majestic castle, a clutch of shops and bars – the ice cream parlour is a delight and the pier the kids always love for the crazy crabbing.
